Virulent Systemic Calicivirus information
Virulent systemic feline calicivirus infection has a mortality rate of greater
than 40% causing death in as little as 24 to 48 hours.  The symptoms of
VS-FCV are runny nose, sneezing, conjunctivitis, severe ulcers on the
tongue and nose, loss of appetite, swelling in the face and/or legs, skin
lesions and hair loss, loss of organ function, and death.

The virus is highly contagious and can be spread in skin cells, hair,
dander, urine, feces, respiratory secretions, and blood.  It is possible to
touch an infected cat then touch something like a doorknob and pass that
to the next person that touches that doorknob.  The next person could
then pass the disease to another cat after touching the contaminated
doorknob.  Clothing, tables, doorknobs, floors, shoes, hands or anything
that touches an infected cat could potentially spread this deadly virus.
